Why does wine need to breathe?

Prepare to be blinded by science...

OK, here's the deal if you don't want to watch the video or you're in a hurry or whatever:

  • Not all wines need to breathe, and most taste better after you've enjoyed a glass or two anyway.
  • Red wines benefit from breathing more than white ones do.
  • Just uncorking the bottle isn't enough, you need to decant it into something.
  • There are aerators you can buy to speed up the breathing while you decant.
  • OR, you can do what we did and put the wine through a blender!
