Ivy notes (December 2025)

"I did some research on House of Suntory (Japanese brand primarily focised on whiskey) and founs that they filter all.of their spirits through bamboo charcoal and use koji (a naturally occuring fungus on rice) for fermentation, so very vegan-friendly!"

Company email (December 2025)

"Suntory Toki does not contain any animal ingredients, such as milk, eggs, cochineal, honey, or animal-derived enzymes. Additionally, no animal products are used in the processing or filtration of Suntory Toki. Our production process remains consistent, ensuring that there are no variations that would affect its vegan status.

"Furthermore, Suntory Toki is produced and bottled in Japan, and we do not have any sub-licensees that manufacture or bottle the product elsewhere. This means that the same processing standards are upheld globally, making Suntory Toki suitable for vegans."

Company email (August 2025): re minus 196
"-196 is suitable for a Vegetarian and Vegan diet. We do not use any animal derived ingredients in our products or during our manufacturing process."

Company email (July 2023)
"We can confirm that all of our Laphroaig products, including the Port Wine Casks, are Vegan-friendly as well as being gluten free. "

Company email (September 2022) re: OTR Cocktails
"Our OTR cocktails are not certified as vegan, therefore we are unable to confirm that they are suitable for individuals practicing veganism."

"Beam Suntory acquired OTR in 2020. For consistency in responses that relate to Regulatory issues (such as inquiries about ingredients or certifications like vegan products), all responses must be passed through our Beam Suntory Regulatory team by the OTR team.

With the acquisition, the production location of our cocktails changed. Since it is not a certified vegan facility, we are not able to claim that our cocktails are vegan. "

Company email (September 2021): re minus 196
"We use shellfish in our filtration process, so -196 is not vegan."

Company email (December 2020) re: Koyomi Shochu
"Unfortunately Koyomi is not vegan friendly. The premium alcohol we are blending the Shochu with has a protein where the ingredient is not suitable for vegans."

Company email (December 2018) re Roku Gin
"Regarding your inquiry, we have contacted the relevant department and are happy to inform that ROKU Gin is suitable for vegans."

Company email (February 2018)

"I can confirm that Suntory Whisky doesn’t contain any animal ingredients, and we don’t use any animal products in the manufacturing process. In addition, all products are exclusively manufactured in our own facilities."
