Company email (February 2024)
"All our Bottled beers are vegan except the Yorkshire stingo and all the cask ones are vegan too except Old Brewery Bitter."

Update (June 2020)
Updated the beer list based on their 2020-2021 vegan product list from https://www.samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Vegan-Product-List-2020-2021.pdf

Their website continues to say (last checked December 2017):
"All Samuel Smith’s beers and ciders are suitable for a vegan diet (except cask conditioned Old Brewery Bitter and bottled Yorkshire Stingo)."

Cosima notes (November 2017) that the Organic Perry is listed as Vegan Society approved on their website (https://www.samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/product/organic-perry/)

From their website (August 2016):
"All Samuel Smith’s beers and ciders are suitable for a vegan diet (except cask conditioned Old Brewery Bitter and bottled Yorkshire Stingo)."

Note from Joe (March 2015):
Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout is registered with the Vegan Society

Note from Jo (October 2012):
"I am just ordering some beer and note that the Samuel Smiths Old Brewery Pale Ale is also vegan - http://www.samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/oldbrewerypaleale.html"

More info from Bones:
"I have just received a telephone call from Chris Horton at Samuel Smith's Brewery (Wed 19/10/11), with the following additional info: All our draught beers are suitable for vegans EXCEPT Old Brewery Bitter hand pulled from the cask. O.B.B. is fined with traditional isinglass. Yorkshire Stingo is also not suitable as it is aged in the oak casks used for O.B.B."

Note from Bones:
"They have now improved and expanded their website. All their bottled beers appear to be labelled as vegan and their website has a page for each, labelled as vegan."

Editor's note:
Samuel Smith produces a wide range of beers, all vegan. Only Samuel Smith owned pubs stock the range, although some bottled beers and lagers are available from off-licences and supermarkets. In the United States, Samuel Smith's bottled beers are imported by Merchant du Vin.

UPDATE: February 2010
Company email from Merchant du Vin
"http://www.merchantduvin.com/pages/1_about/organic_vegan_glutenfree_beer_notes.pdf document is currant and correct - other than those of Traquair, no animal products including honey are used in any of our beers."
