"We do get a lot of people asking about vegan beers. Unfortunately our cask beers are not vegan as we do use “isinglass” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isinglass) This is taken from the dried swim bladders of fish, and is used to clarify the cloudy beer.

However, our bottled beers are vegan, as we use a filtration system to remove the particles of yeast, rather than isinglass. So, our three bottled beers Auld Hemp, Nel’s Best and Matfen Magic can all be drunk by vegans.

The only beer that has any animal products is Ferocious Fred, that uses added lactose to make it into a milk stout. All the rest of the beers just use vegetable ingredients, including yeast.

We hope this helps. Let us know when you arrive and we’ll be happy to serve bottled beer instead of cask. "
